Every single horse featured in this heartfelt gallery holds a truly special place in my heart. These remarkable animals are the ones I’ve personally rescued—whether by adopting them myself or by actively working to find them safe, loving homes where they can thrive. Each of them has a unique story, one that ranges from once running wild and free on the open range to facing a highly uncertain future after a roundup. They came into my life needing a second chance at happiness and fulfillment, and I did everything in my power to ensure they received that opportunity. Their incredible journeys serve as a powerful reminder of why I am devoted to this important work—to give these extraordinary animals the bright future they genuinely deserve. Thank you for taking the time to see their stories, celebrate their remarkable resilience, and wholeheartedly support the vital mission of protecting and advocating for our precious wild horses and burros.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Freedom Reigns Equine Sanctuary, Windwalker Ridge Mustang Sanctuary, and Return to Freedom Wild Horse Conservation, who have welcomed my rescues with open arms. Your compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to providing these wild horses with a safe and loving environment mean more than words can express. Knowing that these Mustangs are now able to heal, thrive, and live out their days in peace brings me immense comfort. Your efforts are truly making a difference, and I am forever thankful for the care and kindness you've shown
LIBERTY & BLAZE-Liberty & Blaze were my first rescues. Liberty is my inspiration—the reason I do what I do. I made a promise to her that I would always be a voice for our wild horses, and I have never let her down.
Her strength astounded me. Chased by a helicopter, loaded onto a semi-trailer and driven for hours to a short-term holding facility, a—only to give birth to Blaze the very next day. In that moment, as I watched her care for her newborn foal despite everything she had endured, I knew my purpose in life. My dedication to this cause is my love for her, and I will always be a constant voice for their freedom.
At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

I want to take a moment to give thanks to that person who lights the flame within me. With such a big heart, I am forever grateful for Alicia and the staff at Freedom Reigns Equine Sanctuary. Taking in Liberty and Blaze, giving them a forever home, Alicia's kindness to reach out to me saved not only Liberty and Blaze from a unknown future but me as well. Her huge heart and willingness to give the Mustangs a beautiful forever home there's simply no words to measure.
For those of you that don't know Alicia, I can without a doubt tell you she is a woman I admire.
Thank you, for making a difference in my Life.

MINGO & NELSON
Mingo touched my heart the moment I saw him being run into the trap. I couldn’t help but think, What a magnificent stallion he must have been on the range. But later, when I saw him in the holding facility—his spirit dimmed, his strength fading—I knew I had to give him a chance to be that stallion again.
Today, Mingo and Nelson have found sanctuary at Return to Freedom, where they can reclaim their freedom, dignity, and the life they deserve.

DOC, JESSIE, WYATT & SUNDANCE- Better known as the Nevada Outlaws
I first saw these boys on the range, running wild and free, and they took my breath away. They were so magnificent, so untamed, that I thought they must have been God’s chariot horses—they didn’t seem of this world.
These Nevada Wilds came from the Pancake Complex, Jakes Wash. Doc and his boys—Sundance, Wyatt, and Jessie—shared an unbreakable bond. When they were rounded up, I knew we couldn’t let them be separated. It wasn’t easy, and we faced pushback from the BLM, but we never gave up.
Now, they are together, just as they were always meant to be, living in peace at Windwalker Ridge Mustang Sanctuary.

McCOY & CASH
McCoy and Cash both hail from the Clan Alpine HMA in Nevada. McCoy was a devoted stallion, fiercely loyal to his family. Even in the holding facility, he never left their side—standing faithfully by the fence, longing for the ones he had lost. Each time I visited, he was there, waiting.
I knew I had to rescue him so his heart could heal. But when they moved him away from the fence, his panic was undeniable. To ease his distress, I chose Cash to be his companion—a friend to stand by his side through this new chapter.
Today, both McCoy and Cash have found safety and freedom at Freedom Reins Equine Sanctuary, where they can begin again, together.

DESTINY & HOPE
Destiny and Hope’s journeys began in different places—Destiny from the Twin Peaks HMA and Hope from the Stillwater HMA, where she was rounded up during the E. Pershing Complex roundup at barely a month old.
Destiny stole my heart the moment I met her at the holding facility. She would come to the fence, determined to keep all the other horses away—just her and me. She became my heart horse. Hope, on the other hand, was a tiny girl, constantly picked on by the bigger horses. Both were listed on the BLM Online Corral, a system designed to push horses through the adoption process quickly. If passed over three times, they fall under Sale Authority, meaning adopters receive a direct sale receipt—an all-too-common path that leads many straight into kill pens.
I couldn’t let that happen. I love these girls with all my heart, and today, they are safe, together, and thriving at Freedom Reigns Equine Sanctuary.

PRIMROSE-
This special little mare captured my heart the day I witnessed her abuse at the Blue Wing Complex roundup. After being relentlessly chased by a helicopter and roped by two wranglers, she was utterly exhausted. She leaned against the wrangler’s horse for support, unable to hold herself up any longer. Then, she collapsed from sheer exhaustion.
What happened next was heartbreaking. The wrangler, impatient and frustrated, tried pulling her up several times. When she couldn’t rise, he got off his horse—first kicking her in the hindquarters, then cruelly kicking her in the face. Summoning every ounce of strength she had left, she struggled to her feet.
When Jessica from Windwalker Ridge saw what had happened, she immediately reached out to find a way to save Primrose. Through joint efforts and cooperation with the BLM, we managed to get her transferred from the private off-range holding facility at Indian Lakes to Palomino Valley Holding Facility, where she could be adopted.
But Primrose’s hardships weren’t over yet. Shortly after arriving, she ran into a fence panel, causing severe injuries to her face. The vet had to remove shards of bone, and she remained at the facility for months, healing, until she was finally cleared to travel.
Today, she is safe. Primrose now calls Windwalker Ridge Mustang Sanctuary home, where she will never know cruelty again.

ANNIE & PEARL —Doc’s daughter and granddaughter—were taken from the wild simply for being outside their HMA. My heart shattered as I watched their band get rounded up, tears streaming as I stood behind my lens. This was a family I had visited countless times, my first stop whenever I traveled along Highway 50.
Mining expansion and increasing traffic had pushed them beyond their designated range, leaving them vulnerable. But their story didn’t end there. Annie has now been reunited with her father and brothers at Windwalker Ridge Mustang Sanctuary, where she will always have her family.

NUTMEG & BRITT- Nutmeg and Britt lived their lives wild and free on the Virginia Range in Nevada, where the horses are managed under the Nevada Department of Agriculture rather than federal protections. Their freedom was cut short when they were removed from a private construction site due to the dangers posed by trenching, sharp objects, and heavy machinery.
The Virginia Range horses face growing challenges as urban development and industrial expansion continue to shrink their habitat. With land disappearing, they are cut off from water sources, hit by vehicles, and increasingly pushed into human-populated areas. Despite these obstacles, their spirit remains unbroken.
Thankfully, Nutmeg and Britt now call Windwalker Ridge Mustang Sanctuary home, where they are safe, loved, and free once more.

Nevada & Cinnamon: A Story of Survival
Nevada and Cinnamon, two young fillies, were rounded up as young foals from the Black Rock HMA in the Calico Complex, young symbols of freedom and resilience. But after being removed from their home and placed in a BLM holding facility, their fate took a tragic turn. Designated as Sale Authority horses, they were sold and, within weeks, ended up in a kill pen, facing the unthinkable.
Thanks to the swift action of a dear friend and dedicated advocates working together, Nevada and Cinnamon were rescued just in time. Now safe in private care, they are beginning a new chapter—one that offers them the security, respect, and kindness they deserve. Their story is a reminder of the urgent need for stronger protections for wild horses and the risks they face under current policies.
